Swisscom’s Roaming Data Surges 13x in 4 Years

Swisscom’s roaming data volumes have virtually doubled year-on-year, partly due to further price reductions and additional inclusive services offered with the newly launched inOne mobile subscriptions.

The new inOne mobile go has put an end to roaming in Europe for Swisscom customers: they can make calls, send text messages, and surf on an unlimited basis in 39 countries in Europe. But even those customers who don’t yet have a subscription for Europe that includes roaming have been able to surf much more cheaply since April 1. Over the last four years, roaming data volumes have increased thirteenfold, said the operator in its financial results for the first half of 2019.

Urs Schaeppi, CEO, Swisscom: We have achieved some major successes in the market: after just over four months, around 570,000 customers have already signed up for our new inOne mobile offering. The new customers can enjoy unlimited calls, text messages, and data with no roaming charges in 39 countries in Europe. Lower prices and additional inclusive services have virtually doubled roaming data volume over the prior year. Swisscom’s Roaming

The latest results from Ookla deliver a clear result again for Switzerland: Swisscom has the fastest mobile network in Switzerland and the best coverage.

  • Swisscom provides the fastest mobile Internet: the average download speed is 53.88 and the average upload speed is 16.95.
  • Swisscom provides the best coverage: There were a total of 164,553 locations observed on Swisscom Network. Of the locations where Swisscom subscribers were active, 164,418 had General Availability and 158,526 had 4G Availability.

“Ookla Speedtests are actively carried out by customers under real conditions. The measurements are taken in supermarkets, underpasses or at home. We are therefore delighted that our mobile network has been confirmed as the best under a wide range of circumstances,” says Christoph Aeschlimann, CIO&CTO Swisscom. “Ultimately, however, the interaction of all the networks is also crucial. In this regard we combine the best mobile network with our high-performance, ultra-fast broadband network, which will cover all of the more than 2,100 Swiss municipalities by the end of 2021.”
