Lion Air introduces Wi-Fi entertainment

The service, called Lion Entertainment, was a collaboration between the airline and wireless in-flight entertainment (W-IFE) provider PT Dua Surya Dinamika (AirFi Indonesia). Lion Air Wi-Fi entertainment

The entertainment can be freely accessed through W-IFE using smartphones, tablets and laptops at 35,000 feet above sea level for domestic and international flight passengers,” said Lion Air president director Rudy Lumingkewas in the statement.

Lion Air new offerings include Hollywood, Bollywood, Korean, Chinese and Indonesian films. There are also children’s videos, magazines and games. A “chat onboard” feature will be instated as well.

During the first phase, Wi-Fi will be installed in five of the carrier’s Boeing 737-900ER planes.

PT Dua Surya Dinamika president director Satish Mahtani said, “Passengers and other parties are not allowed to access personal data using the W-IFE network from AirFi Indonesia in order to maintain privacy and security.”

To access the Lion WiFi Entertainment service, passengers need to connect to the in-flight Wi-Fi network and then access the Lion Air entertainment portal through their device’s web browser. The portal offers a selection of free and paid content that passengers can choose from.

While the pricing for Lion Air’s Wi-Fi entertainment service is not publicly listed, it is likely that the airline charges a fee for access to premium content. The exact pricing may vary depending on the flight and the content selected.
