Using Dual SIM technology with 2 nano SIM cards
In mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau, the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR devices have Dual SIM with two nano-SIM cards. iphone 12 dual sim
This allows you to have two numbers to make and receive calls and text messages.
Here are some of the many ways to use Dual SIM:
- Use one number for official calls and another for private calls.
- Add a local data rate when traveling outside your country or region.
- Use separate voice and data rates.
In iOS 13 and later, you will be able to make and receive voice and FaceTime calls on both phone lines, and send and receive messages via iMessage, SMS and MMS. * iPhone can only use one mobile data network at a time.
* Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) technology is used, which means that both SIM cards can make and receive calls.

To use Dual SIM, you need iOS 12.1 or later, two nano SIM cards and one of the following iPhone models:

Insert a paper clip or SIM card eject tool into the small slot on the SIM card slot, and slide it toward iPhone to remove the SIM card slot. You will see a slot in one corner of the new SIM card. Insert a new SIM card in the slot. Due to the groove, it can only be installed in one way. Then insert another SIM card into the top compartment.
When you insert two nano SIM cards, insert the SIM card holder back into the device so that it is fully seated, in the direction in which you removed it. There is only one way to enter the device compartment.
Tariff marking
When you activate another tariff, you will be able to mark your own tariffs. For example, you can mark one tariff as business and another as private.
You’ll use these tags to select the phone number you want to use to make or receive calls and messages, assign a mobile number, and assign a number to your contacts to know which number to use.
If you change your mind later, you can change the bookmarks by going to Settings> Mobile network or Settings> Mobile data and tapping the number whose bookmark you want to change. Then tap Data plan label and select a new one or enter a custom label.
Set your default number dual sim iphones
Select the number to use when calling or sending a message to a person who is not in your Contacts application. Select the mobile tariff you want to use for iMessage and FaceTime. In iOS 13 and later, you can select one or both numbers.
On this screen, select the default number or the number to use exclusively for data traffic. The second number will be your default number. If you want your iPhone to use mobile data from both tariffs, depending on coverage and availability, turn on the Allow mobile data change option.
Use two phone numbers for calls, messages, and data traffic
Read the instructions below for using an iPhone set up with two phone numbers.
Set the number of numbers you want to use on iPhone
When calling contacts, you do not have to start dialing each time. By default, iPhone uses the number you used to make the last call to that contact. If you haven’t called the contact yet, iPhone will dial the default number. If you want, you can specify a number to make calls to a contact. Do the following:
- Touch the contact.
- Touch Preferred Mobile Tariff.
- Touch the number you want to use for that contact.
Making and receiving calls
You can make and receive phone calls at any number.
If the operator of your other phone number supports Wi-Fi calls, in iOS 13 and later you will be able to answer incoming calls on another number during the call. When you have a call that is not on the default data line, you will need to turn on the Allow mobile data change option. Otherwise, if you ignore the call and have voicemail set up with the operator, you will be notified of the missed call and the call will be routed to voicemail. Check the availability of Wi-Fi calls with your service provider, and check with your data service provider to see if additional charges or data usage apply.
If your operator does not support Wi-Fi calls or this feature is not turned on, 1 call coming to another number during the first call will be diverted to voicemail if you have set it up with your operator. 2 However, you will not receive a missed call notification from another number. Call waiting works for incoming calls to the same phone number. To avoid missing an important call, turn on call divert, and divert all calls from one number to another. Contact your operator for availability and possible additional fees.

2. If roaming is activated for the number used for mobile data, then visual voice mail and MMS will be disabled for the voice call number.
Change the phone number to call iphone dual sim
You can change the phone lines before making a call. If you’re calling a person from the Favorites list, follow the instructions below:
- Touch the information button .
- Touch the current phone number.
- Touch another number.
If you are using the keyboard, follow these instructions:
- Enter a phone number.
- Tap the phone number at the top of the screen.
- Touch the number you want to use.
Send messages via iMessage and SMS / MMS iphone dual sim
You can use iMessage or SMS / MMS to send messages from any phone number. * You can change phone numbers before sending a message using iMessage or SMS / MMS. Do this as described below:
- Open the Messaging application.
- In the upper right corner of the screen, tap the New button.
- Enter a contact name.
- Touch the current phone number.
- Touch the number you want to use.

Additional information about the status icons for Dual Sim
The icons on the status bar at the top of the screen show the signal strength of both operators. Find out what the status icons mean.
You can see more status icons after you open Control Center .
The status bar shows that the device is connected to Wi-Fi and Operator 2 is using Wi-Fi calls.
The status bar shows that Operator 1 is using LTE and Operator 2 is using the mobile data of Operator 1.
Change the number for data traffic
You cannot use data traffic on more than one number at a time. If you want to change the data traffic number, do the following:
- Go to Settings> Mobile network or Settings> Mobile data.
- Touch Mobile Network.
- Touch the number you want to use for data traffic.
If you turn on the Allow mobile data change option when you have a call on a number that you only use for voice calls, that number will automatically switch to voice and data use. * This allows you to use voice and data during a call.
If you turn off the Allow mobile data change option and you have a call at a number other than your default mobile data number, the mobile data will not work during that call.
To enable the Allow mobile data change option, follow these steps:
- Go to Settings> Mobile network or Settings> Mobile data.
- Touch Mobile Data.
- Turn on Allow mobile data change.
* Data traffic will change automatically during a call. The change to data traffic will not work if you are currently using data roaming. Contact your operator for availability and possible additional fees.
5G network information and Dual SIM features dual sim iphones
In mainland China, the 5G network is available when using two active lines in Dual SIM mode on the line that currently uses data traffic. Also, when using 5G network in Dual SIM mode in mainland China, a standalone 5G network is not available. In Hong Kong and Macau, the 5G network is not available in Dual SIM mode on iPhone 12 models.
Manage mobile network settings
To change your mobile network settings for each tariff, follow the instructions below:
