Iliad – who is next?

In France, the arrival of Free Mobile in 2012 largely lowered operator prices.  Iliad, the parent company of the fourth operator, however, has international ambitions and for example launched a new operator in Italy in May 2018. So question “who is next” seems legit.

Thomas Reynaud, General Manager of Iliad, assured that for the moment the firm ” focuses on the French and Italian markets  ” and that a launch in another country is not the priority. However, a launch in Belgium or Germany can be envisaged.

Indeed, as noted by Dylan Legros , corresponding to UniversFreebox, the group has recently updated the registration of domain names iliadmobile.be and iliadmobile.de.

We should also remember that Belgium is now open to the arrival of a fourth operator  to ” promote investment, price competition and more competitive prices for the consumer  “.

For its part, Germany is also pushing for the arrival of a fourth operator through the authority of the competition authority.

For the time being, there is no reason to say with certainty that Iliad will embark on these two countries. The possibility is just enough considered by the company to secure domain names, a very common practice, regardless of the market.

One could imagine, however, the launch of an offer similar to that available in Italy for some months, with 30 GB of data in 4G +, unlimited calls and SMS and 2 GB of data in European roaming  for 5.99 euros per month.  All of course without commitment.

To get started, however, Iliad will need a network. We remember the chaotic launch of Free Mobile in France, still relying partly on the roaming of Orange, while in Italy, Iliad relied on the assets already operational Wind operator.
