Travel publication Big 7 Travel released its 2020 list of the “most Instagrammable places in the Europe”, with Dubrovnik, Croatia ranking first.
The destinations are ranked in order of their visual allure and popularity on social media.
To compile the list, Big 7 Travel selected the winners by analyzing the amount of hashtags per destination, surveying the publication’s 1.5 million readers and conducting a vote among a panel of travel experts.
“These are the places where you’ll find sweeping stretches of coastline, historical monuments, kitsch cocktail bars and more street art than you can possibly imagine,” said Sarah Clayton-Lea, Big 7 Travel’s head of content, in a statement.
So… ‘most Instagrammable place’ in Europe is
1st. Dubrovnik, Croatia – 94.37%
As George Bernard Shaw once said, “those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik.” With its winding streets, cliffside beach bars and UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Old Town, it’s no wonder Dubrovnik is such a popular spot.
Looking down across the terracotta rooftop tiles that cover the city with the sea in the background is unbeatable.
2nd. Iceland – 93.26%
Iceland is one of the most unique counties in the world, with a landscape that encompasses everything from volcanoes, geysers, hot springs to lava fields. Abandoned airplanes, breathtaking glaciers and views for days will all look great on your social media.
3rd. The Highlands, Scotland – 93.11%
The Scottish Highlands are a rugged and beautiful area in the North West of Scotland, with Loch Ness at their centre. They are also home to the highest mountain in the UK, Ben Nevis, and the area is known for its hiking and beautiful scenery.
4th. Budapest, Hungary – 92.56%
The capital city of Hungary, Budapest is a fairytale city in Eastern Europe. The city itself is separated by the 19th-century Chain Bridge that connects the hilly Buda district with flat Pest – hence the name Budapest!
5th. The Cotswolds, England – 92.35%
The Cotswolds is a rural area in the South of England that takes in six counties and is home to some of the most postcard-perfect landscapes and houses.
With the 102 mile Cotswold Way at its heart, this is a paradise for walkers or people seeking an outdoor holiday. And for those looking for a more leisurely break? Well, the many country pubs with roaring fires in the winter offer a perfect alternative.
6th. Kerry, Ireland – 92.01%
All the way west in Ireland is one of the country’s most scenic counties. Kerry’s mountains, lakes and coasts are postcard-perfect, and that’s before you add in Kilarney National Park. 7th. Malta – 91.98%
