Finnish communications provider DNA has announced that it has begun selling mobile 5G subscriptions, having previously launched its ‘DNA Home 5G’ offering last month.

In a press release regarding the development, the operator revealed that four tariffs are on offer for residential users, two designed for smartphones, and two for mobile broadband routers.
DNA 5g tariffs
Prices for the new smartphone plans start at EUR36.9 (USD40.7) per month for a service offering downlink speeds of up to 400Mbps, while the other plan costs EUR49.9 and promises a maximum 1Gbps connection. Mobile broadband-only plans start from EUR34.9 per month. All four tariffs offer unlimited data allowances though, while the smartphone plans also include unlimited calls and SMS. A separate range of tariffs aimed at corporate customers have also been introduced, with an entry-level downlink speed of 600Mbps.
In terms of service availability, DNA’s 5G network is currently live in Helsinki, Vantaa, Tampere, Turku and Hyvinkaa. Looking ahead, it has said it expects to expand to several locations ‘early in the year’, targeting: Espoo, Oulu, Jyvaskyla, Lahti, Kuopio, Vaasa, Hameenlinna, Seinajoki, Rauma, Pori, Raisio, Heinola, Nokia, Pirkkala, Ylojarvi, Lempaala, Sipoo, Rusko and Lieto. With regards to its ‘DNA Home 5G’ service, meanwhile, the operator noted that this is available in Helsinki Metropolitan Region, Tampere and Turku at present, but will be expanded to other regions ‘as DNA’s 5G network expands’.
Separately, DNA has also published a financial statement bulletin, revealing that its net sales increased by 3.3% in the year to 31 December 2019, to reach EUR942.1 million (USD1.04 billion), with mobile service revenue up 7.0% year-on-year at EUR486.4 million. EBITDA in the operator’s most recent fiscal year totalled EUR305.6 million, representing annualised growth of 7.2%, although its net profit fell to EUR98.8 million in FY19, down from EUR102.2 million a year earlier.
In operational terms, DNA reported a mobile subscriber base of 2.822 million as at 31 December 2019, down marginally from 2.877 million y-o-y, while monthly ARPU was unchanged at EUR18.7. Fixed broadband subscriptions increased notably, however, to 542,000 from 481,000 at end-2018, while the number of fixed telephony accesses continued a downward trend, to stand at 36,000 at the end of the reporting period (Dec-18: 41,000).
