Cuba’s Etecsa offering free mobile internet during test

Starting at 0 o’clock on the 8th day, all mobile services will have a 50MB package at no cost and users will not have to manage their acquisition. Once that volume is consumed, they will have the possibility of a second test package with an additional 50MB that they will have to acquire, by any of the two existing channels: from the MiCubacel portal ( https://mi.cubacel.net ), previous registration or dialing * 133 * 1 * 3 #.

 

Both packages are free and will be valid until 11.59 on the night of Monday 10.

ETECSA alerts those customers who have an active Nauta Stock Exchange and use nautica mail from their cell phone during the test, they will continue to discount the amount of said Bolsa.

Likewise, it is recommended that users deactivate the option of tariff for consumption to avoid that when the test package is exhausted, the balance of their telephones will be affected, thus avoiding undesired expenses.

It is essential to share with the users some recommendations for the best enjoyment of mobile data and a better use of the test package:

  1. When you are in 2G coverage you can connect and make use of features such as email or instant messaging. Navigation is not recommended in 2G because it always prioritizes voice services.
  2. Under 3G coverage, users can connect to make use of instant messaging, video calls or web browsing. It is not recommended to update or download in any case; for it access better from the wifi areas.
  3. Configure telephone equipment well to avoid being triggered automatically and involuntary expenses. For it:
    • Deactivate the mobile data of the phone if you are not browsing.
    • Use the different browsers configured in data saving mode and measure the data consumption in your phone and check the desired limits.
    • Disable online synchronizations and automatic update of phone applications. Check the settings so that the actions in the background are not executed, videos are not activated automatically, among others.

The company performs these tests as part of the preparation of the service launch this year. During the period foreseen for the test, it may be stopped partially or totally according to the behavior of the network and the adjustments of technical parameters that will be evaluated.

The test options will be available 72 hours for customers who wish to participate and can enjoy 100 MB free of charge, with two packages of 50MB each, the first enabled by the company and the second managed by the client.
