Play Poland to bring eSIMs to all customers
eSIM is a virtual digital card stored in a small module permanently built into a smartphone, smartwatch or tablet. The eSIM solution, treated as a microchip, can be downloaded remotely. In practice, this means that the customer no longer has to physically insert the SIM card into the phone and the device connects to the mobile network in a standard way. Poland operators also are offering eSIM service for customers and Play Poland introduced their own eSIM service.
The eSIM function has been commercially available on the Polish telecommunications market for 1.5 years and its precursor is Orange. According to the data disclosed by the operator, the eSIM currently has over 50,000 network users, both business and individual. Using eSIM allows to use one phone number on many different devices.
After Orange Polska, the eSIM solution was also introduced by T-Mobile last year. T-mobile eSIM support goes for smartphones, smartwatches and notebooks.
Polish operator P4, trading under the Play brand, will introduce eSims to all of its customers from 22 August as well. The offering will cover postpaid, prepaid and Mix B2C subscribers, as well as B2B subscribers. It will be free to replace Sims with eSims.
Play is a consumer-friendly operator, providing services to over 15 million subscribers. Play provides mobile telephony, messaging, data, and video services to consumers and businesses (especially SMEs) based on subscription contracts and prepaid offers. Company modern 2G / 3G / 4G LTE / 5G telecommunications network covers 99% of the Polish population.
Since its commercial launch in 2007, Play has grown from a beginner’s position to become number 1 on the mobile market in Poland in 2017.
