O2 Telefónica, Transatel Boost IoT in Germany

O2 Telefónica and the European mobile communications provider Transatel will be working closely together in Germany in the future. The two companies signed a long-term cooperation agreement, including mid-term access to O2 Telefónica’s strong 5G network. Together, they will expand the range of connectivity solutions in the German market, e.g. for the automotive sector. Transatel, a subsidiary of NTT Group, will offer Internet-of-Things (IoT) and machine-to-machine (M2M) applications for industrial companies via the O2 Telefónica mobile network. Transatel is especially strong in the automotive segment, industrial IoT, and workplace connectivity, with notable customers such as Airbus, Stellantis and Worldline. In addition, Transatel also offers roaming solutions via eSIM in more than 200 destinations to residential and business customers under its “Ubigi” brand ¹⁾.

The market for IoT and M2M solutions will grow rapidly in the coming years. This is because digitization and automation are advancing in many industries, from the automotive industry to medical technology and logistics. According to Statista Market Research, the market volume in Germany alone will be around 51 billion euros by 2028. The prerequisite for this is powerful networking of people, machines, engines, or sensors. O₂ Telefónica has been supporting companies in this area for many years, including with 5G campus networks, IoT connectivity, cybersecurity, and SD-WAN. O₂ Telefónica operates a state-of-the-art network that was repeatedly rated “very good” in a benchmark test by the German “Connect” magazine. Already today, the O₂ Telefónica network provides 5G coverage to more than 90 percent of the population – and just recently launched 5G Plus (5G standalone technology), too. In mobile communications, O₂ Telefónica serves more than 44 million mobile lines. No other network operator connects more people in this country. “As the telecommunications provider with a very broad wholesale expertise in Germany, O₂ Telefónica is open to new partnerships to expand the ecosystem-play for new innovative solutions and business models,” says Alfons Lösing.
