Norway Airports Transform with Amadeus: Elevating Passenger Experience Through Advanced Technology
As air travel continues to evolve in the digital age, airlines and airports alike are being pushed to adopt new technologies that enhance the passenger experience. With travelers expecting a seamless, modern journey from check-in to boarding, leading airports around the world are innovating to meet these demands. Norway’s state-owned airport operator, Avinor, has embraced this challenge by forming a strategic partnership with global technology leader, Amadeus. This collaboration aims to modernize airport operations and improve the overall passenger experience through cutting-edge digital solutions and services. Norway airport technology
Commenting on how airline customers and travellers expect a modern, seamless airport experience, Simen Bergsrud, Head of Digital Services, Avinor, said:
“Our teams will work hand-in-hand with Amadeus to co-create an outstanding passenger experience that helps to bring the joy back to air travel. Technology is advancing quickly and we envisage a future with less terminal hardware and a much more flexible approach to serving passengers.”
The partnership is aligned with Avinor’s vision to enable passengers to check in and drop bags from any location within the terminal. Check-in agents roaming the departure hall will use an app on a tablet or mobile device to serve passengers from multiple airlines. In addition to capturing passport or biometric data, they will be able to print boarding passes and bag tags from any kiosk in the terminal.
The agreement will see Norway’s 43 airports upgrade their use of Amadeus’ Cloud Use Service (ACUS) across more than 800 service points as well as begin powering the group’s 250 self-service check-in kiosks with Amadeus software. Avinor’s airports will also be able to activate biometrics across the end-to-end passenger experience, including check-in, lounge access, and boarding, reducing manual document checks and further removing friction from the passenger experience.
One of the key benefits of Avinor’s partnership with Amadeus is that the operator’s smaller regional airports can be managed remotely without the need for costly infrastructure like check-in desks or Flight Information Display units.
The partnership also provides for a range of additional upgrades to the way baggage is processed and tracked as well as how messages are exchanged between different actors at the airport by moving to new digital systems. Norway airport technology
“Avinor has long led the way with technology innovation and has a strong belief in the power of new technology to reduce the cost of operations and improve the airport experience,” added Yann Guillemain, SVP EMEA Airport and Airline operations, Amadeus. “This is a flexible contract that sees Avinor adopt a wide range of our existing products but I’m particularly excited about the co-development our teams will undertake to conceive entirely new ways to serve passengers.”
