Carrefour launches mobile-enabled Scan&Go shopping in UAE

Carrefour, operated by Majid Al Futtaim in the UAE, has launched Scan&Go Mobile, a feature allowing customers to use their smartphones to scan, bag purchases, and checkout completely on their own

Carrefour UAE has introduced a Scan&Go mobile service in the market after its initial launch in 2018 in selected hypermarkets. The personalised scanners used previously are now replaced with smartphone apps to benefit from the new mobile service.

Customers can use the scan, pay and checkout services via smartphones and experience a contactless shopping journey at multiple Carrefour formats. The new mobile service is currently available at Deira City Centre, City Centre Mirdif, Arabian Ranches 1 and 2, Springs Souk and Jumeirah Park with additional stores scheduled to offer the service before period end.

The initiative comes at a time when retailers across the globe are moving towards contactless shopping experience at stores to ensure safer shopping experiences for consumers.

Philippe Peguilhan, Country Manager of Carrefour UAE at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, said “We understand that today, more so than ever, customers place a premium on innovation, convenience and quality customer service. Scan&Go Mobile allows us to give customers more independence and control. By enabling an experience that limits contact with other people and touchpoints, shoppers can now enjoy an easier shopping experience while having peace of mind.”

The introduction of the Scan&Go Mobile service to the UAE follows the [2018] launch of Carrefour’s Scan&Go personalised scanners that were provided in selected hypermarkets across the UAE. To ensure customer safety and convenience, the previously used scanners have been replaced to encourage shoppers to use their personal smartphones.

To make use of Scan&Go Mobile, users can download the MAF Carrefour App on iOS or Android and register for SHARE — Majid Al Futtaim’s lifestyle rewards programme. Customers can then easily use the Scan&Go feature on the app to scan items in-store as they shop. To checkout and pay, customers can proceed to a designated Scan&Go checkout counter, scan their QR code and then make a contactless payment.
