Uber could soon offer eSIM purchases within its app
While Uber has not yet officially announced a feature to purchase an eSIM directly from its app, there are indications that this feature may be in the works. Strings of code found within the Uber app suggest that users may soon be able to purchase and activate an eSIM directly from the app.
Version 4.502.1 of the Uber app for Android includes code that very clearly talks about the ability to purchase an eSIM plan from Uber. The platform will also seemingly run a promotional offer giving customers 100MB of free data to use on the Uber app when they get to their travel destination.
Additionally, Uber has partnered with Valid, a company that provides eSIM technology, to enhance its IoT deployments worldwide. This partnership could further pave the way for Uber to offer eSIMs to its customers.
Valid’s mioSIM eSIM is integrated with ConnectedYou’s unique connectivity orchestration platform, which also includes Valid’s Remote SIM Provisioning software, enabling multi-carrier connectivity management globally for Uber across all mobile operators in the UberSIM ecosystem.
The UberSIM solution enables Uber’s various IoT use cases to stay seamlessly connected to the service, while Uber’s ecosystem benefits from the flexibility created by this architecture for availing the best costs and quality.
If Uber does implement an eSIM purchase feature, it would offer several benefits to users. For example, it would make it easier for users to get a data plan for their Uber trips, especially when they are traveling internationally. Additionally, it would allow users to manage their Uber data plans directly from the Uber app without having to switch between different apps or websites.
Overall, the potential for Uber to offer eSIMs to its customers is a positive development. It would make it easier for users to stay connected while using Uber, and it could also help Uber to expand its reach into new markets.
