Three UK Reintroduces Free EU Roaming — But Only on Select Plans
In a partial reversal of its post-Brexit roaming policy, Three UK has begun reintroducing free EU roaming on certain new and upgraded mobile plans.
While this does not mark a full return to its pre-2021 “Go Roam” policy, it signals a renewed effort to remain competitive as customers continue to demand cost-effective travel connectivity.
What’s Changing?
As of June 2025, Three has quietly started offering inclusive EU roaming on some of its latest Pay Monthly plans. Eligible users can use their UK data, minutes, and texts in Go Roam Europe destinations at no additional daily cost. This is a departure from the £2 per day roaming charge introduced in May 2022 for most post-Brexit customers.
However, this benefit only applies to select new or upgraded plans—older tariffs and lower-cost deals may still include roaming fees. Users are encouraged to check their plan details or speak with customer support to confirm eligibility.
A Limited Comeback of Go Roam
Before Brexit, Three was known for its traveler-friendly “Go Roam” offer, allowing customers to use their phones abroad just like at home in over 70 destinations, including most of Europe, the US, Australia, and more.
That changed when the UK exited the EU. In 2021, Three announced that free roaming would end for new and upgrading customers, introducing a daily charge model. Now, in a shift that stops short of a full reversal, the company is selectively bringing back Go Roam for EU use on newer plans—suggesting growing pressure from consumers and competition.
Who Is Eligible?
Free roaming applies to:
- New or upgrading Pay Monthly customers on eligible plans
- Use within Go Roam in Europe destinations (over 40 countries)
It does not apply to:
- Pay As You Go users
- Older Pay Monthly plans not covered by the update
- Travel outside the EU/EEA (e.g., US, Canada, Australia), unless additional add-ons are purchased
A 12GB fair-use cap still applies while abroad in the EU.
Not a Full Rollback
While some may welcome the return of Go Roam, it’s important to note that not all customers benefit. Many still face daily charges unless they switch to one of the newer qualifying plans.
Also, roaming in non-European countries remains subject to the standard £5 per day charge unless a data add-on or pass is purchased.
Market Context
Three’s move comes as pressure mounts from consumers and watchdogs alike. O2 still offers free EU roaming up to 25GB on most plans, while EE and Vodafone continue to charge for European use, unless roaming passes are added.
With summer holidays in full swing and data-hungry travelers looking to stay connected across borders, Three’s selective reintroduction of inclusive EU roaming is a calculated attempt to regain ground lost since 2021.
Bottom Line about Three UK free EU roaming
Three UK is not offering free EU roaming for everyone—but it is quietly reintroducing the perk on some new Pay Monthly plans. It’s a step in the right direction for travelers, but you’ll need to read the fine print or consider switching plans to take full advantage.
