Samsung, Google and Qualcomm teamed up to create a new mixed-reality platform

Mixed Reality (MR) is an emerging technology platform that combines elements of both virtual and augmented reality. It enables users to experience digital content in the real world, with digital objects and characters appearing to exist in the same physical space as the user. This new way of interacting with technology opens up a world of possibilities for industries such as gaming, entertainment, education, healthcare, and more. Samsung invited Google and Qualcomm to its Galaxy S23 Unpacked event on Wednesday to announce that they are working on their own mixed-reality platform.  Find out more about the newest mixed reality platform below.

For now, it is not yet clear which products and services will support the platform, but, according to Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm, companies are working to create a “new era of highly immersive experiences that blur the line between products physical and digital worlds”.

Samsung, Qualcomm and Google will join forces to develop a new mixed-reality platform. The news was announced on the stage of the most recent Galaxy Unpacked, where the South Korean technology company unveiled the new Galaxy S23 smartphones and Galaxy Book computers.

According to Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm, companies are working to create a “new era of highly immersive experiences that blur the line between physical products and digital worlds”, which bring together Snapdragon XR technology, Samsung products and the experiences of Google.

For now, it is not yet clear which products and services will support the platform, but this is not the first time that Samsung has bet on this area. In 2014, Samsung announced its entry into the virtual reality market, in collaboration with Oculus, which is now part of Meta.

From the partnership between companies, Gear VR was born, a virtual reality headset focused on integrating the brand’s smartphones.  However, Samsung’s support for the Gear VR system was eventually discontinued.

On the side of Google, in 2016, the company launched the Daydream View virtual reality headset. However, in 2019, technology put an end to the project. Despite having announced the end of support for Project Tango in 2017 to dedicate itself to ARCore, Google continues to develop solutions in the area of augmented reality. mixed reality platform

At Google I/O 2022, the company showed the world a prototype of augmented reality glasses that will use an Artificial Intelligence system to translate and project conversations in real-time on the lenses. Google has already started testing the prototype.

In conclusion, mixed reality technology is an exciting new platform that is changing the way we interact with technology. With standalone MR devices and the increasing use of MR in enterprise applications, the MR market is poised for significant growth in the coming years. Key players such as Microsoft, Magic Leap, and Facebook are leading the way in terms of innovation and adoption, and it will be interesting to see how MR technology evolves and becomes increasingly integrated into our daily lives.
