Best and worst rated UK hotel chains
The research asked 8,197 adults – members of the Which? Connect panel and the public – to rate the best and worst-rated UK hotel chains on a range of criteria, including bed comfort, value for money, quality of food, and overall cleanliness.
It’s the seventh year in a row that the group, which has 61 hotels, has come to the bottom of the survey of more than 40 hotel chains.
The best and worst-rated UK hotel chains
Britannia Hotels has been rated the UK’s worst hotel chain in a survey by consumer champion Which?.
Britannia mustered just one star in most categories, including bedrooms, bathrooms, food and drink, cleanliness, and value for money. Many customers complained of ‘tired’ and ‘rundown’ bedrooms and ‘dirty’ bathrooms. One customer described a ‘filthy bathroom with used toiletries stuffed behind the curtain’.
EasyHotel and Ibis Budget also performed badly while Premier Inn and Wetherspoon Hotels got the highest scores. Wetherspoon shared first place with Premier Inn, the reigning champion for the last four years.
The only two brands to receive the full five stars for cleanliness—Apex Hotels and Warner Leisure—were our top-rated small hotel chains.
At the other end of the spectrum from Britannia, the incredibly consistent Premier Inn scored an excellent 79%. Premier Inn has achieved WRP status for the seventh year in a row.
Wetherspoon Hotels also received an excellent customer score, equaling Premier Inn with 79%.
