Mobile operators in Russia start testing IoT Sims

Russian mobile operators have started testing Sims for IoT services, reports Kommersant. Mobile operator Megafon has already launched IoT tariffs. Users won’t need to change SIMs in order to access the deals; they will only need an NB-IoT-supporting device. At the moment there are almost thirteen million such devices in Russia. russia iot

Standard NB-IoT is widely applied in various transducers, sensors and automatic counters, most of which is used in smart homes. Such devices consume a minimal amount of energy. As well as minimizes the level of traffic on the Internet.

Maps of the new standard have already been released. Mobile operators are asked to test them in sixteen pilot areas. The manufacturer will submit for testing three kinds of SIM cards: normal, thermal cards to operate in extreme climatic conditions and SIM chips for small gadgets.

In case of successful testing, the new generation SIM cards will be developed with a new tariff.

According to analysts ‘ estimates, AC&M, in Russia, the volume of SIM cards for the Internet of things does not exceed 5% of the total number of activated cards. For the further development of this format will require the creation of a separate support network. russia iot
