Mobile Vikings to lower international tariffs from 15 May

Belgian mobile provider Mobile Vikings plans to reduce international tariffs from 15 May, in line with the European Electronic Communications Code (EECC). Find out more about Mobile Viking’s international solutions below.
The code sets tariff ceilings for telephone calls from the home country to other EU countries.

In 2019, there will be two updates when it comes to roaming, and international calls and texts. As of 15/5/2019 Mobile Vikings are updating their international rates, as instructed by the European Commission: the rates for calling and texting from Belgium to a EU number will be drastically lowered.

You’ll find more details about calling and texting from Belgium to countries outside the EU in Mobile Vikings international roaming wizard.

Different situations in Switzerland, Monaco, and the Dutch part of Saint Martin: those countries are not part of the EU. We therefore have to update the roaming rates there to € 13/MB, € 0,5/text, and € 2,5/minute as of 6/3/2019. Those are the market rates… But Mobile Vikings know they’re doing their utmost to lower theirs again in the future. We therefore strongly recommend you to not surf via data roaming in these countries.

You can block this in your device settings.

General Steps:

  1. Access your device settings: The exact path may vary slightly depending on your phone’s operating system (iOS or Android). Typically, you’ll find it in the main settings menu.
  2. Locate the “Mobile networks” or “Cellular” option: This is where you’ll manage your mobile data settings.
  3. Find the “Data roaming” option: Toggle this setting off to disable data roaming.

Specific Instructions:

If you need more detailed guidance, please specify your phone model or operating system.

Here are general examples:

  • iPhone: Settings > Cellular > Data Roaming
  • Android: Settings > Network & internet > Mobile network > Data roaming

Remember: Disabling data roaming will prevent you from using mobile data when you’re in these countries. You can still make calls and send texts, but you’ll be charged standard roaming rates.

Additional Tips:
  • Consider using Wi-Fi whenever possible to avoid roaming charges.
  • Purchase a local SIM card if you plan to spend a significant amount of time in one of these countries.
  • Check with your mobile provider for specific roaming plans or options that might be available to you.

By following these steps, you can effectively block data roaming and save money on your mobile bill.
