Flixbus starts VR experience trial on some US buses

FlixBus first launched in Europe and came to the US last year to compete with Greyhound and other bus services, offering rides for as low as five dollars. However, it’s a much higher-tech operation with a business model more akin to Lyft or Uber, offering free WiFi, power outlets and other perks. In Europe, it also has a train service called FlixTrain.

The company, which launched operations in the US in May, will be expanding its bus and accompanying tech services to Texas and the eastern part of the US, including New York, next year. The company has its headquarters in Los Angeles and has now set up a new office in New York City which will serve as the hub for FlixBus USA’s eastern operations.

Buses heading to different destinations in the US will be equipped with VR long-distance bus entertainment loaded with approximately 50 games, travel and cinematic experiences. Whether you dream of floating through space, walking across the Arctic with a family of penguins or simply playing basketball from the comfort of your seat, these alternate, 3D realities can become your own during your next FlixBus journey.

Each of the below FlixBus rides will be equipped with four virtual reality headsets, reserved for passengers who book the Panorama Seats located at the front of the bus on the top level. Simply choose “Seat Reservation” while booking your ticket, then select the “Panorama Seats” option. Each passenger with glasses will receive an instruction manual to assist in their #FlixVR experience.

The FlixBus virtual reality experience is offered at no additional fee, however headsets are limited, so be sure to book early.
