Q2. Many eSIM providers focus on low prices — you chose unlimited global access. Was that a strategic decision to build a premium brand from the start?

Absolutely, this was a deliberate and non-negotiable strategic decision from day one to differentiate strongly right away.

We recognized that chasing the bottom of the market is unsustainable, considering our premium-driven products. Not only athletes and fans, but all kinds of frequent travelers, aren’t tracking two-euro savings; they demand reliability, convenience, and peace of mind; they want their data to just work, nearly everywhere, without fail.

For our athletes, clubs, and fans, connectivity is not just an isolated feature—it’s mission-critical infrastructure. If the flow is interrupted, the emotional connection between fans and athletes breaks down instantly.

The reality today is, as one of your Alertify posts noted, which I liked a lot by the way, “switching is easier than complaining.” Friction and cost to switch are almost zero.

Q3. Can you explain the technology or partnerships behind your FairPlay FLEX data offering? How do you maintain high-speed connectivity across 135+ destinations?

We back this promise with world-class infrastructure, not just marketing. Our unique access stems from the global network of senior entrepreneurs and athletes who co-founded Footballerista. This opened doors to trusted, large-scale partners—creating the symbiosis our ecosystem is designed for.

On the infrastructure side, we are partnered with global leaders like Tata Communications or football clubs like Real Madrid.

They provide the essential technical backbone and emotional foundation. This brought Footballerista a vast carrier relationships and routing intelligence that delivers high-speed, stable performance across 135+ destinations, a number that is constantly growing. We don’t rely on local deals; we operate on top of a proven, sophisticated global grid – the concept where athletes, fans, partners and anyone who simply wants to enjoy fair and seamless connectivity all win as part of our FairPlay philosophy.

Q4. How did the idea of a FairPlay FLEX global eSIM plan first come about, and what problem were you trying to solve in the roaming market?

The “job-to-be-done” question to be answered was born directly out of the unmet needs of the Footballerista community – Peace Of Mind. We kept confronting the same truth: starting from our own experiences, for people constantly on the move, the roaming market is fundamentally not customer-friendly at all, complex, and just not fair in our view.

Today’s market is defined by hidden limits, sneaky throttling fine print, vague country zones, and the infamous ‘roaming bill shock’ everyone has been exposed to. Overall, staying connected with your friends and family shouldn’t feel like defusing a bomb.

So FairPlay FLEX was our clear answer. Instead of forcing people to juggle different local plans, we created a single, global concept: a unique solution where you never hesitate to keep your data on, a subscription covering your back.

To enforce this, we are going to introduce our FairPlay Referee feature – our unique digital mascot looking after fairness behind the scenes. It watches your connection in the background, proactively notifying you of any approaching usage thresholds or condition changes. Q5. eSIM users often worry about hidden limits or unclear policies. How does FairPlay plan to build trust through transparency—especially around what “unlimited” means in practice? How do you ensure fair usage and network stability without traditional data caps or throttling?

For us,  FairPlay is an obligation, not just a fancy name. Trust starts with full transparency, especially around what “unlimited” means to us in relation to realistic usage patterns of our target audience.

Our telco experts quickly addressed a massive market pain point: between 60-70% of purchased data simply expires unused. Customers pay for something that in the end, literally evaporates!

Thinking about it, I had a comfortable 70 EUR local contract with a 40GB/month roaming allowance for years. The biggest revelation since working with Footballerista resp.  FairPlay? I was blind to the waste. I found I was actually consistently paying for two-thirds of the data I never used – as one of the first FLEX subscribers, I have not only halved my monthly costs, but created a peace of mind knowing that I am in control, perfectly able to engage via the STOP/GO feature in our app to open my data valve whenever, wherever, and only if needed.

Q6. Your plans range from 1-day to 24-month contracts. How do you balance flexibility for casual users with loyalty from frequent travelers?

We reject the one-size-fits-all model because a fan on a weekend trip, a player on tour, and a digital nomad living out of a suitcase all have different needs. To balance flexibility with loyalty, we built distinct solutions: FairPlay offers UNLIMITED DAY PASSES and fixed-volume packages for casual, predictable users, and, our FLEX subscription for our constant heavy users, as mentioned in our opinion the best value for money in the market.

FairPlay FLEX starts with €25 per month for a 24-month commitment — as well as available for 6 or 12 months, at a slightly higher monthly cost — and is our unique answer to comfort our target audience, including a meaningful 5 GB allowance before the first threshold applies. It’s the only subscription model with a sequential top-up methodology. This means users get the security of perceived unlimited data and are protected when usage spikes. We deliberately avoid linking to old, slow 2G and 3G networks—they simply cannot support today’s data-hungry lifestyle. This means our users tap into the same premium infrastructure as local customers.

Our transparency is shown in our destination list (e.g., “Country (5G, 4G/LTE)”), which tells you upfront the quality you can expect – only high-speed.

Q8. What’s FairPlay’s long-term vision — to stay a premium niche brand, or evolve into a mass-market global operator?

We have zero interest in diving into the commodity markets, fighting on price by sacrificing the user experience. Throttling after 1GB per day for instance, but calling it unlimited, is neither fair nor part of the vision of Footballerista. Our vision is to be a stand-alone global premium operator powered by a value-driven community.

Q9. How do you see eSIM adoption changing the travel industry in the next 2–3 years?

In one word: unstoppable. When a giant like Apple ships new models as eSIM-only, it’s a clear indicator of where this trend is headed. Physical SIM cards are, in my opinion, slowly becoming the DVD of mobile connectivity.

Analysts confirm this direction, projecting that active eSIM connections will grow from 700 million in 2025 to exceed 1.3 billion in 2026, ultimately hitting the 2 billion mark by 2027, with a massive slice being travel-related. eSIM will quickly evolve from a “tech feature” into the quiet, invisible infrastructure of how we move through the world.

For travelers, this means three tangible daily-life shifts. First, no more airport SIM stress—you land, and you’re already online. Second, instant switching between providers will raise the industry bar on quality and fairness.
