Xiaomi held its launch event under the theme “Leap Beyond the Moment” to announce Xiaomi HyperOS, powering its smart ecosystem of personal devices, cars, and home products.
Focused on four major goals: low-level refactoring, cross-end intelligent connectivity, proactive intelligence, and end-to-end security, Xiaomi HyperOS promises a brand-new user experience. Xiaomi HyperOS will be pre-installed on the newly launched Xiaomi 14 Series, Xiaomi Watch S3, Xiaomi TV S Pro 85″ MiniLED, and other devices in its domestic markets.
Low-level refactoring: releasing the full potential of devices Xiaomi HyperOS
Xiaomi has achieved remarkable growth over the past 13 years, expanding from just 100 users to an impressive 1.175 billion users worldwide, along with a product catalog now spanning over 200 categories. In the Internet of Things era, Xiaomi faced the unique challenge of navigating the complexities arising from the multitude of device operating systems and the interoperability challenges between various ecosystems. This experience has driven Xiaomi to innovate beyond anything seen before, resulting in Xiaomi HyperOS. In development since 2017, Xiaomi HyperOS is designed to bring coherence to the IoT landscape. Its mission is to unify all ecosystem devices into a single, integrated system framework. The ultimate goal is to deliver peak device performance, ensure a consistent user experience, and facilitate seamless connectivity across all Xiaomi devices.
The core of Xiaomi HyperOS is formed by Linux and Xiaomi’s self-developed Xiaomi Vela system. Its exceptional compatibility and precise system resource management capabilities enable every device to deliver ideal performance. Xiaomi HyperOS’s underlying layer supports over 200 processor platforms and over 20 standard file systems, covering hundreds of device types and thousands of SKUs. It allows for flexible configuration, operation, and deployment in accordance with hardware requirements. The range of compatible device RAM sizes covers as small as 64KB to as large as 24GB. Following the principle of only configuring necessary resources based on varying hardware, coupled with file deduplication and compression of the underlying IO stack, Xiaomi HyperOS is naturally lightweight: the system firmware on smartphones occupies only 8.75GB, a significant improvement over competitors.
Xiaomi HyperOS boasts refined scheduling capabilities that can accurately command hardware and tasks in diverse and complex scenarios. This is achieved through technical means such as dynamic thread priority adjustment and dynamic task cycle evaluation, resulting in optimal performance and power efficiency. Running resource-intensive games on a smartphone equipped with Xiaomi HyperOS allows for a more stable frame rate and lower power consumption compared to stock Android and other heavily customized operating systems.¹ On lightweight devices with limited processing power, the scheduling advantages of Xiaomi HyperOS are even more apparent; it supports task splitting across multiple computing units for cooperative processing, which maximizes hardware performance. Furthermore, Xiaomi HyperOS has undergone an extensive restructuring of technical modules, including the file system, memory management, imaging subsystem, and network system, all aimed at efficiently harnessing and optimizing of the varying hardware capabilities of different devices, thus providing optimal performance.
Cross-End Intelligent Connectivity – HyperConnect takes connectivity to the next stage
Beyond pursuing excellence in single-end performance, Xiaomi HyperOS shatters the limitations of conventional system architectures. At its core, an innovative Cross-End Intelligent Connectivity framework, HyperConnect, takes the lead, facilitating real-time networking between a myriad of devices. With the introduction of the integrated device center, users can now actively control nearly their entire array of connected devices, affording them the ability to effortlessly monitor and manage their interconnected ecosystem from anywhere, whether at home, on the road, or at the office. This heralds a new era of convenience and efficiency for users as they seamlessly identify and operate all devices within their Xiaomi ecosystem.
Xiaomi HyperOS harmonizes all connected devices, allowing software to adapt to user needs. Seamlessly switch camera sources during video conferencing, access car cameras from your phone, access your smartphone’s rear camera while you’re using a tablet or a laptop, and even connect your tablet to the internet via your smartphone. Additionally, apps, clipboard content, and notifications can be moved effortlessly between devices as needed by the user.
Proactive intelligence: enabling devices to understand user intentions
In the era of the Internet of Things, cross-device connectivity and capability integration are essential. Xiaomi HyperOS takes this a step further by incorporating an AI subsystem supporting advanced AI technologies, enabling devices to assist users proactively.
HyperMind is the cognitive center of Xiaomi’s device ecosystem, bringing pioneering cross-device connections into the era of ‘proactive intelligence.’ This enables devices to proactively understand user needs and act accordingly. HyperMind utilizes the four perceptual capabilities of devices – environment, vision, sound, and behavior, to learn user requirements and automatically adapt devices to their needs. For instance, if a user always turns on the living room light upon unlocking their smart door lock, HyperMind will automatically illuminate the room after learning this pattern, after requiring user consent. This innovation simplifies complex cross-device connectivity and reduces traditional machine learning costs, enabling users to enjoy the convenience of device connectivity without needing to understand intricate logic comprehension or trigger mechanisms.
Xiaomi HyperOS utilizes large foundation models, enabling them to empower system applications. Xiaomi AI Assistant now allows direct access to large foundational text generation capabilities via its user interface, enabling tasks like speech generation and article summarization. The real-time subtitle feature has been enhanced to transcribe video conference conversations into notes and intelligent meeting summaries. Users can utilize spoken phrases to search for images in their photo albums and create AI images based on existing portraits. The tablet version of the “Mi Canvas” app adds an AI brush that can transform casual doodles into exquisite artwork. Furthermore, third-party applications can tap into the AI subsystem’s potential, such as document comprehension through screenshots within WPS or single-command presentation generation.
To efficiently deploy large foundation models, Xiaomi HyperOS leverages its AI subsystem to integrate them into the device NPU. This support extends to Xiaomi’s self-developed large foundation models on smartphones, exemplified by the imaging foundation model, which has reduced model size and memory usage by 75% and decreased drawing time from 100 seconds to just 5 seconds. These enhanced image generation capabilities are already enhancing features like Xiaomi AI Assistant’s ‘Text to Image’ and ‘Image Extender’ in device photo albums.
End-to-End Security – safeguarding users in every scenario
At Xiaomi, user privacy and security are the cornerstone of all user experiences, and we are committed to continuous enhancement in this area. Xiaomi’s self-developed TEE serves as the foundation of our security subsystem. Operating on dedicated hardware, this isolated security OS is purpose-built to safeguard sensitive information, covering a wide range of security features across smartphones and AIoT devices, such as biometrics, passwords, and screen locks.
Xiaomi HyperOS places a paramount focus on security, extending its protective umbrella not only to individual devices but also to interconnected security modules. This interconnected security module-based TEE ensures mutual trust among devices within the network. To further safeguard the entire network, Xiaomi HyperOS employs end-to-end encryption through TEE for data transmission between devices.
Open Sharing – co-construction and sharing of intelligent ecology

Xiaomi is proud to announce the open-sourcing of Xiaomi Vela, an IoT software platform tailored for consumer IoT products. This platform, developed independently by Xiaomi, is based on the open-source NuttX real-time operating system. Xiaomi Vela provides a uniform software platform across various IoT hardware, simplifying development by abstracting underlying hardware differences and offering a unified software interface for upper-level developers. This approach unifies disparate application scenarios, streamlines development, and enhances efficiency. By making Xiaomi Vela open-source to IoT device manufacturers and developers, Xiaomi is fostering IoT device innovation, improving performance, and enabling real-time connectivity capabilities across a wide spectrum of devices.
