Unlock your door with a home key on iPhone
Apple has begun retailing NFC-enabled smart door locks that are compatible with its digital Home Key feature, enabling users in the USA to lock and unlock their home with a tap of their iPhone or Apple Watch using a digital key stored in Wallet. iphone home key
Some lock makers provide the ability to unlock your door with a home key in Apple Wallet on your compatible iPhone and Apple Watch (Series 4 and later). You add a home key to Apple Wallet with the Home app on your iPhone.
When you have a home key on your iPhone or Apple Watch, place your device near the lock to unlock it. You can even create powerful scenes and automations and control from anywhere with the Home app — even ask Siri to lock or unlock with just your voice. And with the Level app, you can share access to your home with others, including friends, visitors, and people you trust.

“With home keys, simply tap to unlock Level Lock+ using your iPhone or Apple Watch for easy and secure access to your home.
Set up a home key
- Add a supported lock to the Home app.
- Choose an unlocking option.
- Express Mode: Unlock the door just by holding your iPhone or Apple Watch near the lock.
- Require Face ID or Passcode: Hold your device near the lock, then use Face ID or Touch ID to unlock it.
- Choose automations such as Lock After Door Closes and Lock When Leaving Home.
If the lock you add supports HomeKit, all residents of your household receive the home key automatically.
Set up an access code for a guest
In the Home app you can set up an access code for people who need temporary access to your home.
- Open the Home app on your iPhone.
- On the Home tab, touch and hold the lock, tap Accessory Details, tap
, tap Manage Access, then tap Add Guest. - Give the guest a name—Dog Walker, for example—then turn on the locks you want them to have access to.
- Tap Change Access Code, enter an access code, then tap Done.
- Touch and hold the access code, tap Share, choose a sharing option, then share the access code with the guest.
, You can return to this screen to change the access code, turn off access to some or all of the locks, or remove the guest.
Apple unveiled support for digital keys for “everyday places” in June 2021 and rolled out support for digital key sharing in October.
