Toyota to use Huawei HarmonyOS cockpit for bZ7 SUV

Toyota and Huawei are teaming up to develop their first joint venture smart car named bZ7, using the HarmonyOS cockpit solution. After a year of long planning, both firms are ready to manufacture smarter electric vehicles for Chinese customers.

Huawei has partnered with many global automobile makers like Dongfeng Honda, NissanBMW, and now Toyota. These collaborations are helping the Chinese tech giant to expand its smart automotive solutions business on home turf.

Speaking of Toyota, it is a Japanese multinational as well as the largest automobile maker in the world. It used to produce nearly 10 million vehicles annually.

Li Hui, the general manager of Toyota China, revealed that he aims to tie up with Huawei and equip its HarmonyOS Cockpit in the bZ7 electric sedan. He said:

“To deliver cars that people want in China, we need Chinese brains and hands involved in development.”

According to Toyota, the HarmonyOS cockpit can power up the smart car more effectively. Cockpit systems are those technologies that control windows, ACs, and seat positions via the touchscreen in the smart car.

The Japanese firm has also joined hands with a Chinese startup, Momenta, to make an L2 advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). Though being a level 2 setup, it will still require human oversight to manage driving.

On the other hand, Honga aims to use DeepSeek AI services for its vehicles to integrate a voice command response feature. Perhaps we will see more Huawei driving solutions-powered smart cars in China in the near future.
