Tampnet enables offshore Gulf of Mexico roaming via major carriers

Tampnet said it has enabled Gulf of Mexico roaming on its offshore mobile network. People on drilling rigs, fishing boats, ships and yachts can now use their smartphone or tablet with their existing onshore mobile subscription.

If you are with one of the major carriers your smartphone or tablet will automatically switch to our network, when offshore in the Gulf of Mexico and you can use both data services and talk services with the SIM card that is already installed in your device.

Turn on “Roaming” on your smartphone

Go to “Settings” on your smartphone. Choose “Mobile Data” and choose “Mobile Data Options”. Make sure that “Data Roaming” is on. Choose “Voice & Data” and make sure “4G and VoLTE” is on. Read more about VoLTE here.

Yes, this is the case for most operators. That said – some operators might have measures in place to limit the speed or megabytes consumed. Also, for some operators, the rates for voice and SMS might deviate from terrestrial rates and be excluded from monthly allowances

Most operators include Tampnet data roaming without additional costs. That said, rates for voice and text might differ from terrestrial networks. Reach out to your operator to get confirmation on additional charges – contacting the operators via Facebook/messenger is an efficient way to reach customer care.
