MTN Uganda introduces eSIM’s
MTN Uganda has introduced embedded SIMs (eSIM) for its customers. Travellers will no longer need to buy physical SIM cards when venturing abroad, as adding an international plan can be done with a few taps. MTN Uganda eSIM
eSIM is soldered directly to your smartphone’s motherboard, making it a non-removable component. At first glance, this might appear to be a limitation, especially for globetrotters who often swap physical SIM cards to avoid steep roaming charges. However, the eSIM comes with a slew of benefits that more than make up for this initial drawback.
Benefits of eSIM’s MTN Uganda eSIM
There are many benefits to using e-SIMs, including:
- No need for a physical SIM card:Â This means that you can save money on the cost of a physical SIM card.
- Easy to switch devices:Â You can easily switch e-SIMs between compatible devices without having to worry about losing or damaging your physical SIM card.

How to get an e-SIM from MTN Uganda
To get an e-SIM from MTN Uganda, you will need a compatible device and a valid MTN Uganda account. You can then visit any MTN Uganda service centre to have your e-SIM activated.

Not all devices are compatible with e-SIMs. Some of the compatible devices include:
- Apple: iPhone XR, XS, XS Max, 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, SE (2nd generation), 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max, 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max
- Samsung: Galaxy S20, S20+, S20 Ultra, Note20, Note20 Ultra, Z Fold2, Z Flip3 5G
- Google: Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL, Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL, Pixel 5, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro
- Huawei: P40, P40 Pro, Mate 40 RS
Airtel Uganda also supports eSIMs. In fact, they were the first telecom operator in Uganda to introduce eSIMs in 2019. Airtel Uganda’s eSIMs are compatible with a wide range of devices, including smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches.
