Makedonski Telekom has won the 5G radiofrequencies
AEC has allocated the radiofrequencies for the 700MHz and 3.6GHz radio bands and, from now on, the users of Makedonski Telekom’s 5G services in all larger cities throughout the country will have gigabyte speeds. makedonski telekom 5g radiofrequencies
Telekom’s 5G network is already available in 16 towns and their regions and, as of today, the company will start enabling gigabyte speeds also in the centre of Skopje, which will be followed by the central regions of Bitola, Prilep, Ohrid, Struga, Tetovo, Gostivar, Stip, Strumica and, by the end of September, Kumanovo and Kicevo as well. Makedonski Telekom continues expanding the latest generation network and by the end of this year 26 towns will be covered with a technology from the fifth generation.
The first 5G network in Macedonia started with commercial operation in February of this year, with an advanced technology for a dynamic usage of the existing radiofrequencies, in parallel and in combination with 4G. By allocating the 5G radiofrequencies, this technology will achieve its full potential and enable speeds ten times higher than the previous ones, thereby providing unprecedented services and products.
“By means of large investments and hands-on dedication since 2018, which marked the beginning of our 5G story, we have made sure that the latest generation technology is available for our customers. Today, with the allocation of the radiofrequencies by the Agency for Electronic Communications, we are bringing the superiority of the latest technology – gigabyte speeds. The use of the latest generation infrastructure and technology is for the benefit of the entire society, above all the customers. Therefore, we highly appreciate AEC’s decision to allocate the 5G radiofrequencies to us.” – said Mr. Nikola Ljushev, Chief Executive Officer of Makedonski Telekom.
Almost all devices from the Telekom portfolio have been 5G certified, and the 5G services with the tariffs are available on the following link.
The great speeds and capacities of the new 5G network will revolutionize the customer experience by ensuring faster-than-light sharing of contents and a low latency in communication. This technology will be the driving force for the development of new features that will make our life simpler and better in all spheres.
What does “low latency” of the 5G network mean?
Latency in the technological dictionary means the response time between the sending and receiving information between two parties. The 5G network offers extremely low latency – from 40-50 milliseconds for the 4G network, with the 5G network, it goes down to a few (5-10 ) milliseconds. The average person needs about 250 milliseconds to respond to visual information. Now, imagine the potential opportunities the 5G network opens with even 250 times lower latency than that. If it is applied to, let’s say, in autonomous vehicles, they will become significantly safer for mass use due to the extremely rapid response to receiving information. This feature will allow remote surgeries and diagnostics, which will revolutionize medicine.
5G vs. 4G – What is the difference?
Fifth-generation wireless networks will extend the use of Internet and create massive ecosystem related to Internet of Things. The main advantage compared to today’s 4G and 4.5G (advanced LTE) networks is that, in addition to the enormous increase of data transfer rates, new Internet of Things use cases will be created.
Through the 5G network, it will be possible to connect up to 100 times more devices on a certain territory. It is estimated that the 5G signal will be able to connect up to a million devices per square kilometre. The low latency of the 5G network will allow faster data transfer, and the low power consumption compared to the 4G network will allow the equipment and the devices in the 5G network infrastructure to work for a much longer period of time without human intervention.
What will the 5G network mean for the users? makedonski telekom 5g radiofrequencies
For the users 5G does not mean only faster mobile internet, but also internet connection and connectivity with many more objects and devices than those available to us today. The interaction with cars and connected homes are just two examples of the great IoT revolution that follows, supported by the 5G networks. Samsung and other Android OEM devices already introduced the first 5G smartphones in 2019. More than 50 phones compatible with the 5G network are already commercially available, and 5G SIM cards already appeared on the market at the end of last year.
