Canada ties with South Korea for World’s best download speed experience

Canada has matched South Korea for the fastest average download speeds on mobile networks, according to the latest benchmark report from Opensignal. They each averaged 59 Mbps in early 2020. World’s best download speed

The Netherlands was the only other country out of the 100 surveyed to register an average speed over 50 Mbps, reaching 54.8 Mbps in the period.

“A year ago South Korean users were the only ones that experienced average download speeds above 50 Mbps. While Korea’s operators launched 5G in April 2019, and Canada has only just launched 5G, in early 2020 our Canadian users saw download speeds statistically tied with those of South Korea. The report shows Canada’s download speeds at 59.6 Mbps just edged out South Korea at 59 Mbps:

The Netherlands ranked third with average download speeds of 54.8Mbps. For context, the U.S. ranked 25th globally, with average speeds of 26.7Mbps.

The data collection period from Opensignal took place from January 1 to March 30 for 2019 and 2020, from a total of 43.3 million devices. World’s best download speed

While Canada and South Korea both have very good download speeds for fixed broadband, as of February 2023, they are not currently tied for the world’s best download speed experience. According to the Speedtest Global Index, South Korea has an average download speed of 234.29 Mbps, while Canada has an average download speed of 175.99 Mbps. However, both countries have consistently ranked among the top in the world for download speeds in recent years. It’s important to note that internet speeds can vary widely depending on many factors, including location, service provider, and plan, among others.

The world’s best download speed for fixed broadband is currently held by Singapore, with an average download speed of 245.46 Mbps, according to the Speedtest Global Index as of February 2023. Singapore has consistently ranked at the top of the list for several years in a row. It’s important to note that internet speeds can vary widely depending on many factors, including location, service provider, and plan, among others.
