1p Mobile Set to Launch eSIM Support in the UK by End of June 2025

1p Mobile, a UK-based mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) operating on EE’s infrastructure, has signaled that it will soon introduce eSIM (embedded SIM) support for its customers. This development is anticipated to commence by the end of June 2025.

eSIM technology allows users to activate a mobile plan without the need for a physical SIM card, facilitating easier switching between networks and the ability to manage multiple profiles on a single device. This is particularly beneficial for frequent travelers and those utilizing dual-SIM devices.

What is eSIM?

An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital version of the traditional physical SIM card, built directly into your device. Instead of inserting a card, users can download a mobile plan via QR code or app, making it easier to switch carriers or manage multiple numbers without swapping hardware. eSIM is supported by most modern smartphones, tablets, and wearables.

In March 2025, 1p Mobile announced that it had completed the necessary development work to support eSIMs, pending the issuance of eSIMs by EE. A recent update from 1p Mobile’s social media account on June 3, 2025, indicated that customers should be able to start ordering eSIMs by the end of the month, with activation following shortly thereafter.

This move aligns 1p Mobile with other UK operators offering eSIM capabilities, enhancing flexibility and convenience for its user base.

Benefits for UK Travellers

For UK travellers, eSIM offers major advantages: it eliminates the hassle of finding and inserting local SIM cards abroad, allows instant activation of travel data plans, and supports dual SIM functionality without needing two slots. This means travellers can keep their UK number active while using a local or global data plan simultaneously, reducing roaming costs and increasing connectivity flexibility across Europe and beyond.
