Yota reports 60% increase in roaming income in 2021

Russian MVNO Yota, a subsidiary of Megafon working on its network, announced that its revenues from roaming services grew by 60 percent in 2021. In 2020, roaming revenues of Yota halved and the amount in 2021 was down 18 percent still in  comparison to 2019. The decline was 3 percent in the third quarter of 2021 against July-September 2019. In 2021, Yota almost managed to achieve sub-standard indicators – compared to 2019, the mobile operator lost only 18% of revenue. At the same time, compared to 2020, the company noted a 60% increase in roaming revenue. In the third quarter of 2021, the figure even doubled. The difference in revenue for the third quarter of 2021 and 2019 was only 3% in favor of 2019, reports Telecomdaily.ru. 

In 2021, 12.8% of Yota users were able to travel to another country. In the top of the most popular countries among the mobile operator’s clients is Turkey, this country was visited by 14.1% of all travelers. Abkhazia ranks second with 7%. The third place is occupied by China – 6.9% of all travelers went to this country.  

In addition, Yota calculated the traffic of customers in roaming over the past year. Thus, among social networks, Instagram ranked first with a share of 56%, VK was in second place with a significant margin of 25%. Third place is for Facebook, it has 9% of traffic.

Among the messengers, WhatsApp stably holds the first line with a share of 56%. The second place belongs to Telegram, the share of its traffic among Yota clients in roaming is 39%. On the third Viber with 4%. 

The most popular video service was Youtube (89%), the second place was occupied by the Ivi online cinema (6%), and the third was Netflix (2%). 

For video communication in roaming, Yota customers most actively used Facetime, its share in traffic is 40%, as well as Skype (35%) and Zoom (23%). The least popular application for video calls was MS Teams with a share of 2%.
