In response, Italian mobile operator WindTre is launching three new UK Travel Pass options starting 18 June 2025, aimed at providing cost-effective solutions for customers traveling to the UK.

New UK Travel Pass Options

WindTre’s UK Travel Passes are designed to offer flexibility and affordability:

• Travel Pass Weekly: Includes 5 GB of data and 50 minutes of calls (incoming and outgoing) valid for 7 days. Priced at €2.99, with a promotional activation fee of €0, and subsequent activations at €1.99.
• Travel Pass Monthly: Offers 10 GB of data, 100 minutes of calls, and 10 SMS, valid for 30 days at €4.99.
• Travel Pass Monthly Plus: Provides 20 GB of data, 200 minutes of calls, and 20 SMS, valid for 30 days at €7.99.

These passes can be activated through the WindTre app, by sending an SMS to 40400, or by calling 159. Charges apply only upon first use, and a cost-control cap of €60 is in place to prevent unexpected data charges.

How WindTre’s UK Travel Pass Works

WindTre’s UK Travel Pass is designed for convenience, activating automatically only after the first use abroad. This means no charges are applied until you actually make a call, send a message, or use mobile data in the UK—even if your main WindTre plan is set up for recurring payments via credit card or bank account.

Once activated, the pass remains valid for either 7 days (weekly option) or 30 days (monthly options), renewing automatically at the first traffic event after each period ends. However, this auto-renewal only continues for up to 3 months, after which the Travel Pass is automatically deactivated.

Users also have the option to manually stop the service at any time by sending an SMS with the text NO TRAVEL to 4033.

Changes in Roaming Charges

With the UK’s reclassification to “Zone 2,” WindTre’s standard roaming rates in the UK will be:

• €0.20 per minute for calls
• €0.05 per MB of data
• €0.20 per SMS

These rates apply to customers without an active UK Travel Pass.
