Under the MoU, Vodafone Germany will collaborate with Autobahn to deploy additional mobile phone locations with 5G technology along the 13,200 km motorway network. The company plans to establish 150 new 5G sites by the end of 2026, in addition to initiating 1,000 construction projects at existing mobile sites to enhance coverage and capacity. This expansion will bring Vodafone’s 5G network to every motorway in Germany by 2028 at the latest.

The improved mobile coverage will benefit road users in various ways, including enabling seamless communication, accessing real-time traffic information, and utilizing advanced infotainment services while driving. Additionally, the enhanced network will support the increasing reliance on data services for business and leisure purposes while traveling.

Michael Jungwirth, Director of Public Policy & External Affairs and member of the management board at Vodafone: “Network expansion along transport routes is and remains challenging. But it is also clear: Anyone who travels by car in this country needs stable mobile phone coverage and also needs the most modern mobile phone network By building additional masts, we are closing the last remaining gaps along the motorways, making the network denser and minimizing the number of voice drops. At the same time, with 5G coverage on Germany’s motorways, we are creating the prerequisites for new applications in the area of networked mobility . The agreement with Autobahn GmbH makes it easier for us to expand the network.” germany Autobahn 5g
