Vodafone Germany records 30% data traffic increase this year

Almost two years after the outbreak of the coronavirus, normalcy is gradually returning to everyday life. Not only in the busier city centers and fuller restaurants but also in the way we use our smartphones. Vodafone has analyzed how our usage behavior in mobile communications has changed. The average phone call now lasts 2 minutes and 45 seconds, 35 seconds shorter than a year ago when people spent more time on the phone to maintain contact. The latest news about Vodafone Germany data traffic in 2021 is below.

The evaluation shows that even in mobile communications, things are going back to normal. Because the face-to-face exchange with friends, relatives, and colleagues is easier again, we call for less time. The trend in the meantime to pick up the phone longer ebbs away again. The average phone call today lasts 2 minutes and 45 seconds—35 seconds shorter than a year ago. Instead, even more data is rushing through the cellular network – because we are all on the road more often again and diligently use our smartphones on buses, trains, and trains.

More data on the move in the Vodafone network Vodafone Germany data traffic 2021

Since the beginning of the year, an unimaginable 124,000 terabytes of data have rushed through the Vodafone mobile network. That is around 30 percent more data than in the same period a year ago when we spent more time at home. Vodafone has further expanded its own LTE network so that surfing with the smartphone is successful everywhere. This year, Vodafone successfully completed around 6,500 LTE construction projects. To this end, the Düsseldorf-based company has built new mobile radio stations, upgraded existing stations with new technology, and increased LTE capacities in many places so that even more people can surf the web smoothly at the same time.

Things are getting a bit more normal again, including in our cellular network.

“With the growing vaccination rate, the opportunities to meet friends, family, and colleagues more often in person also increase. We are all on the go again more than a year ago and use mobile services with our smartphones even more. From podcasts on the way to work to YouTube videos on vacation trips by train, ”says Vodafone Germany CEO Hannes Ametsreiter.

The Germans are making shorter calls again Vodafone Germany data traffic 2021

A look at how and for how long we talk on the phone shows that our everyday lives are becoming a bit more normal again. During the stronger contact restrictions caused by the coronavirus, the Germans picked up the phone for significantly longer than in the past at the same time last year. In October 2020, a phone call lasted around 3 minutes and 20 seconds on average. Now that we can meet friends, family, and colleagues in many places, at least in smaller groups, the voice traffic in cellular communications has declined again. The phone calls we make are getting shorter again; at the moment, each phone call lasts an average of 2 minutes and 45 seconds. That is 35 seconds less than a year ago. And that is pretty much the same as before Corona (2019).
