If Roaming Zero has been activated without restriction (always in compliance with the policies for proper use of services) with regard to minutes and SMS, the consumption of GBs included in the national offer may in some cases be subject to imposed limits by the operator, as provided for by European Regulation 2016/2286. In fact, the telephone operator can apply a “lightweight” charge for roaming consumption of up to 7.7 euros per GB. Well, this value is going to decrease gradually over the next few years, up to 2.5 euros per GB since January 1, 2022.

As of 1, 2018, the maximum charge applicable by the telephone operator has dropped to 6 euro per GB, effectively making more GB available for navigation within the territory of the Community.

In case your carrier has restrictions for browsing abroad, the calculation to know the number of GBs that can be used is as follows:

Roaming data volume = 2 x (Price of mobile services package excluded / 7.7)

Roaming data volume = 2 x (Price of mobile services package excluded / 6)

Below is a roadmap that will bring the applicable fee to a maximum of 2.5 euros per GB:
