Tele2 Russia launches 5G roaming in Switzerland
Tele2 has launched international 5G roaming services in the Sunrise network in Switzerland, the cellular provider informed.
Users of the latest Samsung devices can independently test the new technology in a full-fledged 5G network. Sunrise services launched commercial 5G services in 554 Swiss cities in June 2020.
5G communication will work automatically in the country in supported devices.It is reported that Tele2 is negotiating the provision of a similar roaming service with five more countries.
The launch dates for 5G in Russia are still unknown. At the end of July, MTS received a license to provide services in fifth generation networks. The company said that large enterprises and businesses will become the first users of 5G.
Tele2 is a cellular service provider operating in Russia since 2003. The company provides telecom services in 67 regions of Russia, including Moscow and Moscow region.
Net profit of Tele2 for 2019 increased twice to RUB 6.6 billion from RUB 2.7 billion a year earlier. Revenue increased by 14% to RUB 163.3 billion from RUB 143.2 billion. EBITDA was RUB 65.6 billion increasing by 50%. Total investment in the IT infrastructure and network development amounted to RUB 33.8 billion (+32.5% YoY). As of December 31, 2019, the company had 44.6 million subscribers increasing by 2.3 million subscribers for the year. The annual subscriber churn decreased by 2.6% to 34.8%.
