T2 Russia Launches International VoLTE in New Regions of Europe and Asia

T2, one of Russia’s leading mobile operators, is continuing to strengthen its international presence by expanding its VoLTE roaming service to three new destinations: Switzerland, Iceland, and Macau. With this latest rollout, T2 is enabling even more of its customers to enjoy high-quality voice calls over 4G networks while traveling abroad. T2 Russia International VoLTE

VoLTE (Voice over LTE) delivers significantly better call quality and faster connection times compared to older technologies like 3G or GSM. Importantly for travelers, international VoLTE calls are billed as standard roaming calls and do not use up data allowances—offering a cost-effective and convenient option for staying connected.

The expansion means that T2’s VoLTE service is now available in a total of nine regions, with the newest countries added this week. The operator reports that 2,000 roamers in the newly added zones are now able to access the service, while overall, 72,000 T2 subscribers are already using VoLTE internationally. Since its launch, the technology has led to a noticeable increase in average call duration—doubling the length of typical calls—and a threefold decrease in the time it takes to connect.

This growth is made possible by T2’s ongoing efforts to establish strong partnerships with mobile network providers around the world. In Iceland, the service runs on the Nova network; in Switzerland, on Sunrise; and in Macau, through CTM. Earlier deployments include the United States, the Virgin Islands, Australia, China, Vietnam, and Singapore, forming a growing VoLTE footprint that reflects T2’s commitment to delivering next-generation communication experiences for its subscribers, no matter where they are in the world.

VoLTE in roaming allows mobile users to make high-quality voice calls over 4G networks while traveling abroad, offering faster call setup times, clearer audio, and improved reliability compared to traditional 2G or 3G calls. Unlike data services, international VoLTE calls are typically billed as standard roaming voice calls and do not consume a user’s data allowance, making them both efficient and cost-effective. As more mobile operators adopt this technology, travelers benefit from seamless connectivity across borders, with fewer dropped calls and a better overall call experience. The continued expansion of VoLTE roaming coverage reflects the industry’s shift toward advanced mobile infrastructure and a growing demand for consistent voice quality in international travel.
