T-Mobile announced the country’s first nationwide 5G network, covering more than 200 million people and more than 5,000 cities and towns all across the country. If the merger with Sprint closes, the New T-Mobile will be able to build on this foundation to deliver transformational, broad, and deep 5G for All, they said.

The standard 5G promises significantly faster and more powerful connections than older mobile standards. The market leaders Verizon and AT & T offer in the US so far only smaller 5G networks.

However, the 5G support at T-Mobile is still very limited. Currently, only the frequency range of 600 MHz is used, which also explains how the company comes up with so much coverage so early: simply existing LTE frequencies are reused and prepared for the new mobile radio standard.

In addition, this frequency range has the advantage that it has very good propagation properties, so the signal reaches far. However, the provider itself emphasizes that not all customers will benefit equally from the speed advantages. Part of the users should initially notice very little advantage over the usual LTE support. In general, there are other 5G frequency ranges that are faster.

The first two smartphones that support the new T-Mobile 5G network are OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren Edition and the Galaxy Note 10 Plus 5G. And they also show how fragmentary the 5G support for smartphones is currently. While they support the frequency ranges now used by T-Mobile, there is no support for the more mundane, and especially for metropolitan areas, mmWave technology. Although T-Mobile USA is also currently testing this, whoever wants to try it out needs another 5G device.
