Swazi Mobile offer roaming in 27 countries
Newly-established Swazi Mobile, which competes with Swazi MTN in Swaziland, has penetrated 27 countries both in Africa and elsewhere in terms of roaming services, APA report.
The countries are Tanzania, Egypt, Ghana, Mozambique, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo, Albania, South Africa, Kenya, Lesotho, Germany, United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, India, Australia, Netherlands, United States of America, Greece, Hungary, Malta, Turkey, Portugal, Spain, Romania, Czech Republic and New Zealand.
The telecommunications company became operational in July this year, exactly six months after it was granted a license, ending Swazi MTN’s 19-year monopoly.
Its milestones include coverage of over 100 000 subscribers in less than six months and venturing into fixed wireless broadband.
The roaming service, according to Swazi Mobile Brand and Communications Manager, Macford Sibandze, follows the signing of an agreement with one of the world’s leading telecommunications companies, Vodafone Group.
“This began with the signing of an agreement with South African giants, Telkom SA. The service came at a perfect time in most of the countries as the company was aware that they had visitors from Swaziland,”
the official said.

Update: Swazi Mobile changed its name to Eswatini Mobile in 2019, following the country’s official name change from Swaziland to Eswatini.
Eswatini’s telecommunications sector is regulated by the Eswatini Communications Commission (ESCCOM). The main operators are Eswatini Mobile and MTN Eswatini. The state-owned Eswatini Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (EPTC) used to have a monopoly but now focuses on fixed-line services and Internet. The sector is growing with increasing mobile and internet penetration, but challenges remain in rural areas.
