Starlink ‘s internet satellites are primarily intended to connect the most remote areas of the planet, providing services in hard-to-reach areas. Its service was put to the test in Ukraine, with the provision of terminals to keep the country connected during the war with Russia. Now SpaceX has closed its first contract to equip planes with Starlink terminals and provide passengers with Wi-Fi access. According to Reuters, Elon Musk’s company has made contacts with airlines to provide internet on board the planes. This is a key point in the company’s business strategy, in offering connectivity to corporate customers, in addition to rural areas of the planet with limited access. The first contract was signed with JSX, a semi-private jet services company, and consists of equipping 100 planes with Starlink terminals.

The first plane connected to Starlink satellites will be tested at the end of the year.

“Our customers have repeatedly asked us when we will offer Wi-Fi on board and our answer is when we receive the best product in the world. Today, I’m proud to say that we’ve found it and that the wait for Wi-Fi at JSX is almost over,”

said the company’s CEO, Alex Wilcox.

SpaceX recently received authorization from the FCC to operate Internet via Starlink on planes, having previously tested its network on some Gulfstream jets, as well as other military devices. Starlink Satellite

Delta has tested SpaceX Starlink’s satellite internet technology onboard its aircraft too

Delta has tested SpaceX Starlink’s satellite internet technology onboard its planes, the airline’s CEO has said.

Ed Bastian told The Wall Street Journal that Delta had held talks with Starlink, the satellite broadband division of Elon Musk’s SpaceX, and had conducted exploratory testing of the internet technology.

Jonathan Hofeller, SpaceX’s vice president of Starlink and commercial sales, said in June 2021 that the company was in talks with “several” airlines about providing on-board internet connections. It’s a service that several other companies already provide to airlines.
