Solo Beach Holidays Soar: Benidorm Tops List for Single Sunseekers

Solo travel is no longer a niche – it’s a movement. More and more people are choosing to explore the world on their own terms, seeking freedom, flexibility, and personal connection. From first-time solo flyers to seasoned adventurers, the trend is growing fast – especially for summer beach escapes. According to the latest Recharge report from online travel agent loveholidays, solo bookings for popular sun-and-sea destinations like Spain, Portugal, and Morocco have surged by 19% compared to last year.

With places like Benidorm, Tenerife, and Ibiza offering the perfect mix of relaxation and vibrant nightlife, it’s clear that 2025 is the year of the solo sunseeker.

The top 10 summer solo travel destinations according to loveholidays:

Benidorm

Once known primarily for its party scene, Benidorm is now reinventing itself as a top destination for independent travellers, with solo bookings up 80% year-on-year. This coastal hotspot on Spain’s Costa Blanca is attracting a new wave of sunseekers drawn to its easy mix of freedom, comfort, and variety.

Beyond the sun-soaked beaches and buzzing bars, Benidorm offers solo travellers something rarer: spontaneity without stress. Its compact Old Town is filled with unfussy wine bars and family-run eateries where walking in alone feels natural. And while the nightlife is famously energetic — with karaoke, comedy nights, and cabaret in full swing — it’s just as easy to spend a quiet afternoon reading by the sea or people-watching from a shady terrace. For those travelling on their own, Benidorm strikes that elusive balance: solo, but never alone.

Playa de las Americas in Tenerife and San Antonio in Ibiza follow closely behind as the second and third most popular destinations for solo travellers respectively. While both destinations are recognised for their lively nightlife, they also offer pockets of tranquillity for holidaymakers looking to recuperate.

Playa del Camisón in Playa de las Americas and nearby Playa de El Bobo boast a relaxed atmosphere with calm waters suitable for swimming, while San Antonio Bay offers quiet beaches perfect for swimming or reading a book.

Agadir and Albufeira are also popular among solo sunbathers this summer, with the former a laid-back city home to a marina and beaches ideal for sunbathing, swimming and soaking up the Moroccan sun. It’s not only a place that’s easy to get around on foot, it’s full of casual restaurants and cafés suitable for solo diners.

Alternatively, Albufeira offers a wide range of activities for solo travellers at a slower pace. Whether that’s joining a wine-tasting tour, lounging on one of many sandy beaches the coastal city has to offer, or joining in a beach volleyball game on Praia dos Pescadores, there is something for every kind of solo sun seeker.

Commenting on the analysis, Al Murray, Chief Marketing Officer at loveholidays, said:

“Solo travel is taking off this summer, with our customers choosing to jet off to fly-and-flop favourites including Benidorm, Playa de las Americas and San Antonio for their well-earned breaks. These beachside resorts offer the perfect blend of relaxation and bustling nightlife, offering something for every type of solo traveller.”
