SK Telecom expands RCS messaging to PCs and extends its family roaming offers. SK Telecom (SKT) has launched ‘Chat Plus’ for PC users, based on the Rich Communication Services (RCS) standard. Chat Plus is a text service provided by the three mobile communication companies and Samsung. SK Telecom Family Roaming 

SK Telecom has converted the ‘Family Roaming Promotion’ into a regular product and launched a 50% cashback event for T roaming coupons in December to reduce the burden on customers planning to travel abroad next year. It will be held from the 11th to the 25th.

SKT explained that a total of 200,000 households and 450,000 people used the family roaming promotion over the past five months, and it was evaluated as providing both economy and convenience to customers.

The family roaming promotion is a service where only one member of the family can subscribe to the roaming product baro rate plan and, for an additional 3,000 won, all family members (up to 5 people) can use roaming data together. It was first implemented at the end of June.

Since the introduction of family roaming, the roaming usage rate among customers under the age of 19 has approximately doubled compared to before the launch, and the number of female customers has also increased 1.3 times during the same period. Additionally, about 70% of households using roaming overseas use family roaming, making it a necessity for family travel.

In addition, for customers planning to travel abroad next year, SKT will also hold a ‘cashback event’ that will return 50% of the purchase amount as Naver points to customers who purchase T roaming coupons for 15 days from December 11th to 25th.

T roaming coupons eligible for cashback benefits include four types of baro 3∙6∙12∙24GB that can be used for up to 30 days. Cashback benefits are limited to two tickets per person, and if three or more tickets are purchased, cashback benefits are provided for two types of high-selling tickets. Cashback benefits are paid at the end of December after the promotion ends. The registration validity period of the purchased roaming coupon is up to 2 years from the date of purchase, and the validity period of use is up to 6 months from the registration date.

SK Telecom also introduced the baro 24GB product (KRW 79,000, up to 30 days) as a regular product for customers who use a lot of data, such as family roaming users. You can use large amounts of data at a 33% lower price per GB than the 12GB product.

SKT Telecom revamped the Baro rate plan last June, increasing the basic data amount by up to 71% without changing the rate and also expanding the usage period.

Jaewoong Yoon, in charge of SKT subscription CO, said, “We have prepared a 50% cashback event for T roaming coupons so that customers planning to travel overseas in 2024 can use convenient T roaming without burdening the price.” He added, “SKT uses baro currency, and T Guam Saipan domestically. Likewise, following the 50% discount for youth, we plan to continue to introduce innovative T roaming services to customers through family roaming.”

‘Chat+’ is a text service that follows the international standard ‘RCS (Rich Communication Services)’ developed with the participation of SKT. If you are a Galaxy smartphone customer, you are already using it as your default text messaging app. RCS is a message standard that can contain more diverse information than the existing text service (SMS). For example, in SMS, group chatting, read receipt/cancel send, transfer of large files (up to 300 MB can be attached), gift/remittance, etc. are possible, and data is free for image or file transfer of 5 MB or less.

SKT officially released the PC version of this chat+. The Chat+ PC version is currently only available to SKT subscribers (excluding budget phones) and can be used by Samsung One UI 6 or higher models for terminals, Windows PCs, Mac OS users, and Galaxy terminals.

Texting on a smartphone on a large screen… Chat + PC version main features

The biggest advantage of the PC version of Chat+ is that you can use Chat+ on the large screen in front of your PC instead of the small smartphone screen. You can easily write long content using the keyboard, and you can use the conversations and contacts* you used on your smartphone on your PC.
*To synchronize contacts, you need to install the Chat+ PC plugin (however, contact photos are not synced)

Even if you don’t have a smartphone or it’s turned off, there’s no problem if you have the chat + PC version. Chat+ PC version allows you to send and receive messages even when your phone is turned off. There is no additional charge for shipping the PC. The same charging policy applies when sending from a mobile device. You can use it if you are currently using a smartphone plan that includes SKT’s text messaging as standard.

You can also use the same rich communication features of Chat+ on your PC. All Chat+ features are provided in the same way, including group conversation, read receipt/cancel send, large file transfers of up to 300 MB, and seven types of emotional expressions.

How to install the Chat+ PC version SK Telecom Family Roaming 

Initial setup of the Chat+ PC version can be done through QR authentication in the Samsung default messaging app you were using without installing a separate app.

After installation is complete, when you run the PC version, synchronization is performed from the server, so you can continue the conversation you had on your smartphone on your PC, and contacts can also be synchronized.
