Sateliot joins GSMA, inks standard roaming agreements
Sateliot, the first company operating a low-Earth orbit (LEO) nanosatellite constellation under the 5G IoT standard, has become an operator member of the GSMA. SateIiot is signing standard roaming agreements with any mobile network operator (MNO) and mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that is also a member of the GSMA. Sateliot gsma
This allows MNOs and MVNOs to very easily extend their 5G IoT cellular coverage to everywhere on the planet by simply signing a standard roaming agreement.
Finally, the same unmodified NB-IoT cellular devices that are currently being used can now be deployed in remote areas as well, where there is a lack of terrestrial cellular infrastructure. Therefore, end users can maintain their current SIM card and switch seamlessly between terrestrial and satellite networks to gain connectivity regardless of where they are.
Sateliot Joins GSMA to Democratize 5G IoT with LEO Nanosatellites and Roaming Agreements
Sateliot designed its network to cover remote areas where traditional terrestrial connectivity is limited or non-existent, such as mountains, fields of crops, and oceans. The standard protocol will allow massive deployment of 5G IoT solutions without captivity risks or inflated prices.
“We are thrilled to have become a GSMA member,” said Jaume Sanpera, CEO of Sateliot. “This is a fantastic milestone we’ve accomplished, we are the first LEO satellite operators to have standard roaming agreements with global MNOS and MVNOS.”
Sateliot runs the constellation that will democratize access to NTN IoT, demonstrated first by being a major contributor to the 3GPP standard and now by joining GSMA as an operator.
The GSMA’s mission is to drive the growth and development of worldwide mobile communications and provide industry leadership and advocacy. Sateliot’s membership in GSMA positions it as a leader in IoT connectivity, enabling seamless global connectivity for 5G IoT devices and applications.
“We are seeing significant developments in the area of satellite communications, and we warmly welcome Sateliot as a member of the GSMA. We look forward to having them join the GSMA’s Wholesale Agreements & Solutions Group to work collectively and gain from the benefits of our membership,” said Lara Dewar, Chief Marketing Officer, GSMA.
