Cheaper Roaming in Western Balkans, Except 2 countries
As of Wednesday, mobile roaming in Western Balkans countries, excluding Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina, are 9-35 % lower under the second stage of the implementation of a regional agreement on reducing the charges, says State Secretary at the Serbian Ministry of Trade, Tourism, and Telecommunications Tatjana Matic.
Speaking to Tanjug, she recalled that the implementation of the April agreement had started on July 1 and that January 1 marked the start of the second stage, which envisions even lower charges.
Roaming in Western Balkans
With the three mobile operators active in the country, Serbia and its regulatory agency RATEL will continue to comply with the deal in full, Matic said, adding that Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro had last month decided against lower roaming charges from January 1 and in favour of keeping in place the charges introduced on July 1.
“It cannot be said they are violating the agreement because they have implemented the first stage. However, these countries have requested additional time for coordination with their mobile operators and regulatory agencies in order to be able to implement the second stage,” Matic said.
According to statistics, around 1.3 million Serbian citizens used mobile roaming services in Western Balkan countries in the first three months of the implementation of the regional agreement, which is an increase of around 9 percent compared to the same period last year.
