Prepaid SIM cards in Romania will only sell based on identity card
Romania’s Government decided by emergency ordinance that those who want to purchase prepaid SIM card ‘s will have to show their identity cards, starting January 1, 2020. romania prepaid sim card
Moreover, telecom clients who already own prepaid SIM cards will be obliged to declare their identity to the telecom service providers by September 1, 2020, Profit.ro reported.
After that date, the SIM cards whose owners are anonymous will not work anymore, according to the emergency ordinance.
The Government included these provisions in a wider set of measures taken in response to the horrific murder in Caracal, where a young girl was killed after she called the emergency number 112 three times and couldn’t be localized in time.
The Romanian Government promised after the tragedy that it would take measures to make the 112 service more effective in such cases.
Another measure included in this package is increasing the fines for abusive and prank calls to 112 fivefold, from RON 1,000 to RON 5,000 (EUR 1,060).romania prepaid sim card
Orange
Orange is the market leader in Romania. It has good coverage and speeds in the country. In 2014 Orange started 4G/LTE and in 2016 they signed a deal to share 4G/LTE with Telekom through national network sharing. They have covered 97% of the population by 4G/LTE already in 2017.
