For foreign tourists to have a satisfying travel experience in Japan, it is important to obtain information in the same native language and plan. However, at present, few information providers introduce information about Japan in the same native language, and the issue is that reservations and payment methods from overseas are not fully established. In addition, due to the lack of information, overtourism, in which many foreign tourists concentrate in certain tourist spots and stores, has become a social issue in Japan.
On the other hand, the number of foreign residents living in Japan is also increasing. As both foreign tourists and foreign residents are increasing, this service aims to create a system to disseminate information to foreign tourists by utilizing the “knowledge about Japan,” “language ability,” and “acquaintance networks” that foreign residents have, and to solve the issues of foreign tourists and social issues in Japan.

Starting August 7, 2024, KDDI will begin offering “Kamokamo“, a service that allows foreigners living in Japan to introduce store information about Japanese restaurants, beauty salons, and other places in their native language to foreigners visiting Japan for travel or other reasons.

The name of the service “KAMOkamo” expresses the desire for more foreigners to come to Japan (come on come on). The logo depicts a mother and her ducklings walking side by side, superimposing it on the image of foreign residents and visitors to Japan enjoying travel together in Japan.

Through this KDDI service, foreigners living in Japan will introduce recommended store information in their native language, and foreigners visiting Japan will be able to check the information in the same language. If they find a store they like, they can make reservations and even make payments in advance from overseas. Foreign travelers can plan their trip to Japan while they are overseas, so they can come to Japan with peace of mind.

This service aims to be used by travelers from various countries, and will first be launched for Chinese travelers within the popular Chinese messenger app “WeChat.” Supported languages are Chinese only (as of August 2024). Multilingual support is planned for the future. KDDI Kamokamo service for tourists
