Assuming you have some mobile reception upon reaching your destination, you will likely receive an SMS from your mobile network welcoming you to the new country and outlining the settings changes needed if your roaming data isn’t working.
Even though it includes a link supposedly guiding you on how to modify the settings on your device, it’s not particularly helpful.
Here’s how to change them on a Samsung phone
Launch the Settings app on your phone
- Open the Settings app on your phone
- Click the looking glass icon at the top of the Settings app menu and search for “access point”
- The results should show a setting called Access Point Names – click that option
- On the menu that opens, click Access Point Names (again)
- Select Add
- In this menu, you can fill in the details provided by your mobile network. Note that in the Name field, you can give it any name you like. In the APN field, use the APN Name provided by your network. Below is a screenshot of the settings I’ve applied for Lebara, so you can compare the screenshot of the provided settings with what I entered into the phone. As you can see, you don’t need to fill in most of the settings.
After entering the settings, ensure that the new access point is selected on the subsequent menu, and you should now have full roaming data.
Enjoy your travels!
