According to the joint statement issued by the involved parties, Syriatel and MTN will provide substantial discounts on international call rates and roaming SMS charges for Syrian users in Saudi Arabia. These discounted rates will be available through all major telecommunications networks operating in the Kingdom, including STC, Zain, and Etisalat, and will remain valid until June 30.
The new service packages aim to ensure that Syrian pilgrims can remain connected with their families and loved ones back home while also supporting their ability to access important logistical, religious, and travel information during the Hajj period. Whether it’s coordinating with travel groups, accessing schedules, or receiving health and safety updates, these enhanced communication tools are expected to make the pilgrimage experience smoother and more secure.
This initiative reflects a broader strategy by the Ministry of Religious Endowments to enhance support for Syrian pilgrims and ensure their journey is as seamless and spiritually fulfilling as possible. By working closely with telecom partners and governmental bodies, the Ministry seeks to make essential services more accessible and affordable, underlining the importance of connectivity in facilitating modern pilgrimage experiences.
Hajj travel for Syrians
Hajj is the annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, and is considered one of the Five Pillars of Islam, obligatory once in a lifetime for all able-bodied Muslims who can afford the journey. It takes place during the Islamic month of Dhul-Hijjah, with the main rituals occurring from the 8th to the 12th day.
For Syrians, the most common and organized way to perform Hajj is through officially approved Hajj missions coordinated by the Ministry of Endowments in collaboration with Saudi authorities. These missions typically handle visa arrangements, transportation, accommodation, and guidance. Most Syrian pilgrims travel via chartered flights from Damascus or neighboring countries such as Lebanon or Jordan, depending on logistical and political circumstances.
