E-SIM is short for Embedded Subscriber Identity Module, or Embedded SIM. Rather than being available as a physical entity, the manufacturers integrate a small SIM card inside the phone, saving the switching between the physical ones when you change your service provider.

In machine-to-machine (M2M) applications, there is no requirement to change the SIM card, which avoids the necessity for a connector. It increases safety, network security, and security while decreasing space requirements since a relatively bulky connector are no longer required, improving purpose flexibility. An eSIM can be provisioned remotely end-users can add or withdraw operators without physically swapping a SIM from the device.

eSIM is an international specification by the GSMA which permits remote SIM provisioning of any mobile device. GSMA represents eSIM as the SIM for the next generation of connected consumer devices. Networking solutions using eSIM technology can be broadly appropriate to different Internet of Things (IoT) scenarios, including connected cars (smart rearview mirrors, onboard diagnostics (OBD), MiFi devices vehicle Wi-Fi hotspots).

But artificial intelligence translators, GPS tracking units, intelligent earphones, smart metering, DTU, bike-sharing, advertising players and video monitoring devices too.
