Do you still remember the mythical Renault 4L? You wouldn’t recognize the new electric version
The Renault 4 is much more than a car, it’s a true icon. Sold in more than 8 million copies in more than 100 countries, it has crossed all social categories for 60 years. Its production stopped 30 years ago, but Renault has decided to unveil a “show car” that prefigures the future 100% electric SUV in the B segment of the Renault range. This future vehicle will be at ease both in the city and in remote rural areas.
Presented at the end of October, Renault’s mythical 4L model will return with new lines, be fully electric, and also gain an alternative off-road SUV format. It is now known that its price should be around 29 thousand euros in France, according to sources from the French portal L’argus, and should reach the market in early 2025. Renault’s new car thus follows some trends of other manufacturers in recovering classic models, just as Volkswagen did with its beetle and Pão de Forma, or Fiat with the Mini and 500.
The all-terrain model was named the Renault 4Ever Trophy in order to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Rally 4L Trophy humanitarian event. The French brand is also expected to launch a van within this family of electric vehicles.
The prototype made known will be a 100% electric urban SUV, but several references to the original model are pointed out. It’s very vertical front is reminiscent of the classic, although the grille surrounding the round headlamps has been replaced by the Matrix LED system. The rear lights, in the form of a capsule, are also very similar to the classic vehicle.
4Ever Trophy renault 4
The new Renault 4L will be based on the CMF-BEV electric vehicle platform. The 4Ever Trophy version will feature a 100 kW electric motor, equivalent to 136 horsepower, and a 42 kWh battery in the center of the chassis. The French website gives some more information about this prototype model, but it is not sure that all components are included in the series production, such as its rear cameras. And the manufacturer did not show its interior, preferring to keep a surprise for the detailed reveal, sometime in 2024.
In addition to the 4L, another mythical car that is under construction is the Renault 5, a model that was very successful in the whole of Europe in the 1970s/80s. Despite being all-electric, the lines of the vehicle are also reminiscent of the original, which will be launched in celebration of its 50th anniversary. The model is expected to arrive in 2024.
