Chilean MVNO Smobi first to activate eSIM service
Smobi, a Chilean mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), recently became the first local operator to offer an embedded SIM card (eSIM) service. This digital SIM card allows users to activate their cellular data plan without requiring a physical SIM card. smobi esim
Smobi uses Movistar’s mobile networks for its operations and offers plans starting at $4,99. It even offers a free plan that includes 1GB of data for $11,99 per month.
One of the advantages of using an eSIM is that it allows multiple eSIMs on the same cell phone. This means that users can have different phone numbers on the same device if it is compatible. For example, iPhones allow up to 10 profiles, but only one can be used at a time. Another benefit of an eSIM is that it offers faster portability since it is in digital format.
To activate an eSIM on an iPhone, users can go to Settings, Cellular Data, Add Data plan, and scan the QR code that appears. On an Android phone, users can simply scan the QR code and assign the eSIM to their device.
