BSNL launches national Wi-Fi roaming for FTTH consumers
The state-owned telecom operator has rolled out a new fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) subscription feature- a national Wi-Fi roaming service. Find out more about BSNL national Wi-Fi roaming service below.
This service allows BSNL FTTH customers to seamlessly connect to Wi-Fi hotspots across the country, providing high-speed internet even when they’re away from home. The initiative is designed to enhance connectivity and reduce data costs for users while they travel, offering them access to an expanding network of BSNL Wi-Fi hotspots without any additional charges.
How does BSNL’s Wi-Fi roaming service work?
The new Wi-Fi roaming service is available exclusively to BSNL FTTH users and is accessible through the company’s network of Wi-Fi hotspots across India. Once registered, users can easily find and connect to the “BSNLWiFi_Roaming” network wherever they go. The process is simple:
- Visit the registration link: BSNL FTTH Wi-Fi Roaming Portal.
- Register for the “BSNLWiFi_Roaming” service.
- Search for available hotspots in your area, labelled as “BSNLWiFi_Roaming.”
- Select the network from your device’s Wi-Fi settings.
- Enter the credentials (username and password) sent via SMS.
- Connect and start browsing without worrying about extra charges.
This means that users no longer need to rely on costly mobile data when visiting locations with BSNL Wi-Fi hotspots, such as cafes, malls, public areas, or offices. For instance, a frequent traveller between Delhi and Bangalore can now stay connected to high-speed internet without incurring extra charges, simply by connecting to BSNL’s Wi-Fi hotspots.
In addition to Wi-Fi roaming, BSNL has unveiled a new IFT TV service, which provides fiber-based live TV streaming with over 500 channels. Importantly, data usage for IFTV streaming is separate from the user’s FTTH data quota, allowing for uninterrupted viewing.
Other New BSNL Services
Alongside its National Wi-Fi Roaming service, BSNL has also recently introduced the first fiber-based intranet TV service dubbed IFTV in select regions in India. It leverages the telecom provider’s FTTH network to provide users with live TV services, including over 500 channels. BSNL says that data used for TV streaming is independent of the consumer’s data packs and will not be deducted from the FTTH quota.
The company has also debuted a direct-to-device (D2D) satellite connectivity service developed in collaboration with Viasat – with this service, the telecom provider aims to offer seamless connectivity to users even in the country’s isolated corners, such as the Chandratal Lake in Spiti Valley or a remote village in Rajasthan. It will allow them to make emergency calls even when cellular network or Wi-Fi connectivity is unavailable.
