How to Make and Receive Phone Calls on Your iPad
FaceTime, the built-in video conferencing tool on your iPad, is the simplest method to make phone calls. By using your Apple ID, FaceTime allows you to connect with any other Apple ID holder. This includes owners of iPhones, iPads, iPod Touches, or Mac computers.
These calls are entirely free, even for international calls and when made from your iPhone, they do not consume your call minutes. If your carrier supports Wi-Fi Calling on iCloud-connected devices, you can also use your Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad to make and receive Wi-Fi calls.
Wi-Fi Calling with Different Devices
Even if your iPhone is not connected to the same Wi-Fi network or switched on, you can use Wi-Fi Calling on various devices. This means if you are connected to GigSky cellular data, you can use FaceTime or most Wi-Fi calling apps via cellular data. This is a particularly useful option when free Wi-Fi is not available. Ensure that your iPad or iPod touch runs on iOS 9 or later.
Setup for iCloud and FaceTime
Ensure that the Apple ID you use on your iPhone is the same one you’re signed in to iCloud and FaceTime with. Also, keep your devices updated with the latest software. This is a crucial step.
Steps to Place a Wi-Fi Call from Your iPad:
If you haven’t added your device yet—which allows it to use Wi-Fi Calling—add it.
- Open FaceTime.
- Tap Audio.
- Enter a contact or phone number and tap the phone icon.
You can also initiate a call by tapping a phone number in Contacts, Mail, Messages, Safari, and other apps.
Removing a Device from Wi-Fi Calling
To stop using Wi-Fi Calling from a specific device, follow these steps:
On your iPhone, navigate to Settings > Phone > Calls on Other devices.
In the list of devices, disable Wi-Fi Calling for the device you want to remove.
Getting Assistance
If you encounter difficulties in turning on or using Wi-Fi Calling, ensure that your carrier supports this feature and that your devices are updated with the latest software. If you still can’t use Wi-Fi Calling, follow these steps:
- Go to Settings > Phone > Wi-Fi Calling and ensure that Wi-Fi Calling is enabled.
- Restart your iPhone.
- Connect to a different Wi-Fi network as not all networks support Wi-Fi Calling.
- Turn off and then turn on Wi-Fi Calling again.
- Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset Network Settings.
